Shasta County Horse Properties | Shasta County Equestrian Properties| Shasta County Horse Facilities

The county was named after Mount Shasta; the name "Shasta" is derived from the English equivalent for the name of an Indian tribe that once lived in the area. Shasta county, in the area called, Whiskeytown, is a National Recreation Area and is noted for Whiskeytown Lake’s beautiful sapphire-blue waters, which is more than a lake. It is surrounded by mountain peaks, are perhaps the most prominent feature of the park. However, water-based recreation is only a small part of what the park has to offer. The 39,000 acres surrounding the lake has 70 miles of trails, holds four waterfalls, pristine mountain creeks, and opportunities to explore the history of the California Gold Rush. Also, The Pacific Crest Trail crosses through the county in an east/west direction. Horseback riding is allowed on it, but bikes or motorized vehicles are prohibited.
