Nipomo,
the southern-most community in San Luis Obispo County, is also one
of the fastest growing, with a 57% increase in dwelling units since
1990. Home to lots of growing families, Nipomo is one of the younger
communities in San Luis Obispo County.
Like many communities in San Luis Obispo County, Nipomo has a
colorful history tied up with the Spanish settlement of the area
over 200 years ago. The Dana Adobe was the center of the huge rancho
of 37,000 acres granted to Captain Dana after he became a Mexican
citizen in 1835. The preservation of this adobe is a present from
local volunteers to all of the visitors and residents of the county.
One part of the past is preserved in the Nipomo Native Gardens,
located at Camino Caballo and Pomeroy. A profusion of native trees
and plants is maintained by another cadre of volunteers.

The Olde Towne Nipomo Association works to create a quaint village
