Orange Park
Acres was founded in 1928 as the official equestrian destination of
Orange County, which is what the community prides itself on today with
community riding trails and facilities throughout the OPA neighborhoods.
Much of that historical heritage has been preserved with the lack of
sidewalks and street lights, and the abundance of fenced horse trails.
This unincorporated community is comprised of approximately 5,500
residents and is about 1.4 square miles in size. Most of the homes in
this county island are set on lots of 20,000 to 1 ac min square feet, a minimum
requirement for this sector of Orange County (with the exception of the
attached homes in "The Wilderness." Orange Park Acres has several
equestrian areas, and many stables throughout the community. It is a
county island surrounded by the City of Orange in Orange County,
California, composed mainly of upper-middle class residents from the
Orange city area. Its northern border is Santiago Canyon Road and its
southern border is Chapman Avenue. It consists of one shopping
center, and is bordered by the Santiago Canyon College.
Nestled amid lush rolling hills, Orange Park Acres is an exclusive area
in the northeast part of the city of Orange. Though not a separate,
incorporated city, this area is dramatically different from its more
urban neighbors. Offering its residents a unique lifestyle with an
equestrian theme, offering pastoral pleasure with the ultimate in city
convenience. Amenities include tennis, swimming, golf, parks, and riding
trails. There are also very active 4-H clubs, the Garden Club and horse
clubs which feature horse riding, breeding, and showing groups.
Most homes are custom built and many different architectural styles
share the same streets. Located in the central county within minutes of
several freeways, this community reflects the pastoral heritage of time
recently past.
Orange Park Acres has its own country club, Ridgeline, which has a
nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, and swimming pool.
The Wilderness

"The
Wilderness" is a gated equestrian neighborhood within Orange Park Acres
and is comprised of 48 units, with community riding trails
and facilities throughout the Orange Park Acres neighborhoods. It is
often described as a close knit horse community where people look out
for each others horses and find other people to ride with.
Your also have almost direct trail access to the following parks:
Santiago
Oaks Park is only about 1/8th of a mile away, an easy ride from the
Wilderness stable area down dedicated trails directly to the park. Also,
Irvine Park,
Peter's Canyon,
Irvine Lake, the
Mountains-to-the-Sea-Trail, and the
Cleveland
National Forest.
Residents are
responsible for furnishing their own hay and feeding, and cleaning of
the stall is required minimum once per day. THERE IS A SEPARATE FEE FOR
USE OF EACH STALL (approximately $60/stall/month at the present time
(2007), which is used to maintain the horse facilities in the community,
pay for waste removal of the manure, electricity for barn and arena
lighting and for the hot walker, and for the water used by the horses
for drinking and in the wash rack). The community also enjoys an RV lot
right next to the stables area, where horse trailers (and other RVs) can
be parked. The association fee is $220/mo for The Wilderness.
Immediately upon entering The Wilderness community, there are two
breezeway barns open to Wilderness residents only. Each barn has with 16
stalls (15x25 feet), for a total of 32 stalls in the community. Each
stall has an automatic waterer system, feed bins, and a huge tack box.
The stable area also has a mounting block, separate areas for hay/feed
storage, rakes and wheel barrows, a wash rack, a 15x40 foot lighted
turn-out arena, and a hot-walker. In the center of the community, there
are dedicated horse trails, and an approximately 60x100 foot lighted
riding arena with bleacher seating.
